Ugh I hate my job. Not even a job really, just like, gigs. Today was the WORST. This lady — she looked like she just walked off a yacht or something, all designer everything. She wanted to return some really expensive cream, like a hundred bucks, and she had this coupon? It was EXPIRED. Like, clearly. Big red letters, expired date printed right there. And our policy is super strict about that, no expired stuff, no returns on certain health/beauty stuff unless it’s like, defective. Which hers wasn’t. It was just... old. I tried to explain it. Really polite. Even smiled, like my manager says. "I'm so sorry ma'am, but this coupon is expired and our policy states..." and she just CUT ME OFF. Started saying how I was stupid, how I obviously didn't understand how stores work, how she spends SO much money here and I should just override it. Like I have that power? I’m 16! I get paid minimum wage plus whatever weird commission they give us on specific things, which is like never. And she kept going, making a scene, like "are you even listening? Is this your first day? Do you even have a brain?" All while I'm just standing there, trying to keep my face straight. My hands were shaking, I swear. Just over an expired coupon. For a face cream she probably didn't even need. I just kept saying "I understand your frustration, ma'am, but unfortunately, store policy..." My voice was all shaky but I kept it low. And she just kept calling me dumb. Like I’m actually DUMB. And the whole time I’m thinking, this is why I can’t save for college. This is why my phone bill is late. Because I’m stuck here, getting insulted by some rich lady over twenty dollars. I just wanted to disappear. Felt like everyone in the whole store was watching. And they probably were. I almost cried when she finally left. Over nothing. Over just being told I was stupid. And I had to just stand there and take it. I feel so gross now. So embarrassing. It’s like, what if she’s right? What if I AM just stupid?
